FrostWire Basics

FrostWire is an open source peer-to-peer file sharing program for gnutella and BitTorrent protocols. FrostWire is a fork of another popular P2P file sharing program called LimeWire. The FrostWired is written by members of the LimeWire open source community.

Features of FrostWires

FrostWire contains much of the functionality of LimeWire's free version, as well as a few of LimeWire Pro's payment based upgrades On top of that, FrostWire contains no pop-ups, no nag screens, no inhibiting features. User would not get bombarded by ads. In addition, FrostWire users do not have to worry about simultaneous download restrictions.

FrostWire has some new features. It has an online chatroom, which is absent in LimeWire. However, you would not be able to find some of the LimeWire features such as the instant messenger in FrostWire.

By default, FrostWire connections are encrypted with TLS. This can be disabled in the preference. More connections can be made using FrostWire client now.

FrostWire's BitTorrent engine is now powered by Azureus technology. Prior to this, it uses a simplified BitTorrent engine created by LimeWire.

FrostWire allows wireless filesharing between Adroid FrostWire client and desktop computers running it. No pre-configuration on either end is required. These devices are connected automatically if they are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

FrostWire is now compatible with iTune.

The skins of FrostWire has been improved. There are more skins to choose from.
